Closet Decluttering Tips to Get Started

Before you dive into organizing, it’s essential to declutter. Here are some of my favorite tips to kickstart the process:

Start Small 🛍️: Don’t get overwhelmed by tackling your entire closet. Begin with items you know you no longer want, such as old or ill-fitting clothes. This way, you can clear space without feeling overwhelmed.

  • The 3-Second Decision Rule ⏱️: When holding an item, ask yourself, "Would I buy this again today?" If not, let it go! Make decisions quickly to avoid hesitation.

  • The "Trial Separation" Method 📦: If you're unsure about letting go of an item, pack it away for 2–4 weeks. If you don’t miss it, donate it guilt-free!

  • Set Limits 🎯: Assign a specific number of hangers to your closet. This will help keep your wardrobe in check, preventing clutter from piling up.

  • The Packing Test ✈️: Ask yourself, "Would I pack this item for a trip?" If the answer is no, it’s probably time to let it go!

  • Daily Declutter Bag 🛍️: Keep a bag in your closet for clothes you no longer wear. When the bag fills up, drop it off for donation!

Small Closet Organization Hacks

Once your closet is decluttered, it's time to organize! Here are a few simple hacks to maximize your space:

Purse Storage 👛: Save shelf space by nesting smaller purses inside larger ones. Not only does this save space, but it helps preserve their shape too!

Go Vertical ⬆️: Use wall-mounted shoe organizers if floor space is limited. This is a great way to free up valuable space for other items.

Bins & Boxes 📦: Use bins or boxes to store smaller items like socks or shorts. They’re perfect for when drawer space is at a premium!

Key Reminders for Success

Decluttering is an ongoing process, not a one-time event. By committing to small, consistent efforts, you’ll maintain a clutter-free, stress-free closet that you love. Keep at it, and your space will stay organized all year long! 🌟
